That sort of reminds me of when DSC screwed up with their PC-3000.  One of
their new version chips started doing all sorts of weird things like
partially arming and disarming with no customer input (and the board wasn't
even programmed with partitions!).  Sure they shipped out new version chips
with instructions on how to change them, but (and this was a big *but*), the
installing company had to send out a technician to physically swap the chips
*and* reprogram the system from scratch.  The chips were provided "free of
charge".  The service call wasn't.
