True, the cost difference is insignificant compared to hardware and labor.
But I prefer standard 22/4 for recessed contacts because it's easier to push
back in the 3/8" hole.  It's also a pain getting 18/4 into the wire entry
holes of many glass breaks and motion detectors.

If you're getting better results with 18-gauge that's fine though.
