Easily.  Most armed assailants concentrate on the weapon and leave
themselves exposed.   Bats and hammers make lousy weapons when attacking
head on.  One good swing and the attacker is off balanced and easy pickings.

Neither am I for the same reason a Marine is never unarmed.

Most thugs are stupid.  They never expect anyone to put up a fight.  You
submit and comply until they give you an opening and then you drop them.
Works well if you have the nerve for it.
