Re: Glass breaks again...

Norm,
It probably boils down to the fact that we like the equipment we are most
familiar with. I have quit trying to master each new brand I run in to on
takeovers and just exchange the old panel for a new Gem P816. My cost is
modest, I make the customer happy, and I am 100% confident that I can
program and support the panel.

We have a lot of assorted brands being monitored due to takeovers and I have
the software for everything I monitor, but I still feel the most confident
with Napco. If they never made an inroad into the Florida Market, I suspect
they may have had a weak sales rep there. We have had a series of very good
reps who are all still with the company and continue to climb in the
management chain. They make sure the suppliers keep a good inventory and
they have frequent classes to introduce new dealers to the products.

I have never liked Ademco because they always seem to be holding back on
technology. Their new panels always lag behind like they are saving
features for a new version. I also don't like that their boards are not
labeled. If I don't have the manual or a board diagram, I have to scrounge
to find where the connections go. This is essentiall solved as I have their
manuals on my laptop, but its a heavy Dell that takes forever to boot up and
I shouldn't have to bring it in to find out what terminal is auxillary power
+ or -.

Even the new Vista 20P has software that customer support will tell you
shouldn't use. The log shows point ID codes but not the fact that an alarm
occurred and was restored.
