Actually that is only one way lightning can get into an alarm system.
Also through the AC power supply and the real killer is all that
wiring running through a building/house for hard wired systems. That
wiring acts as an antenna and a nearby strike will induce voltage in
the wiring. This is not a problem for the old rock solid relay
systems, but for transistors or microcontrollers, it can zap them.
