Something very similar happened to a client of mine.  The perp crawled
through a crawlspace vent and came up through the hatch inside the
house.  Unfortunately (for him), the dog's kennel was on top of the
hatch.  "Brutus" didn't like having his house moved unexpectedly.  :-)
