P.S. Never is a very long time. I have seen Co-Ops with the appearance or
veil of being customer owned get sold out before. In Arizona there used to
be one called Associated Grocers. It got sold out to Fleming Foods who then
proceeded to cut the throat of all the smaller grocers who had been stock
holding members. Anybody who didn't own half dozen volume stores got
leveraged out. They didn't get shit for their stock when it was sold
either. Its not the only one I have seen, but that one was personal. For
Fleming it was an acquisition to cut out the smaller competitors who
typically provided more personal service to their customers and nothing
more.
