I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that stubbornness is in play
here, replacing a functioning product for no reason doesn't make much sense
to me. If there is some feature he wants/needs that the panel lacks, if he
has difficulty finding a dealer to monitor/service the system or if the
panel had a reputation for unreliability then I can see replacing it.
