I don't think it's just the color of the skin.

I think it's more about those who "eat dirt" and figuratively take on
the color of dirt. I theorize that the dirt affects them into thinking
and acting as if  they're superior when in fact they're just a pair of
brown shoes (or maybe just some loose change or lint on the floor) at
best,  in a closet full of tuxedos .... and just wont accept the fact.
