Nope.  I wasn't giving directions -- only comparing climates.

I have not visited the Amazon... yet.  My brother sailed up the Amazon River
many years ago though.  My brother-in-law works on an oil rig in the middle
of the Amazon jungle.  I hope to visit Manaus -- capital of Amazonia -- next
year.  We'll most likely do one of the eco-tours of the rain forest.

I know where he is, how much he sells, what his business largely consists of
and a good deal more.  And yes, I know where Palm Coast is.  It is as I said
a bit north of where I am and a bit east as well.  Bear in mind that a few
hours' drive easily qualifies as "a bit" when you routinely fly back and
forth to the southern hemisphere.  :^)

You might be right aboout that.  However, the original issue was Mugford's
bad advice to use a 135ºF rate-of-rise heat detector in an attic.  That was
a serious error.  Doing so will almost certainly cause false alarms.
Mugford mostly sells (but does not install) residential burglar alarms.
Like most small alarm companies, his outfit does almost no commercial fire
alarms.  It is therefore not surprising that he has so little knowledge of
fire alarm practices.  However, even a rank beginner ought to know that you
should NEVER install a 135º ROR in a Florida attic.  Nit pick all you want
about whether he's due North or Northeast from me.  He still posted really
bad advice and when I pointed it out he challenged me on it.  Even when half
the newsgroup pointed out how lame his advice was he failed to admit his
error.  This is typical of the kind of bully he is -- too cowardly even to
admit a stupid mistake.

I meant to say winds which come from the landward side.  Would that be
called "onshore" or something else?

Each to his own.  I love it here.  I'm five minutes from Siesta Key Beach.
The weather is gorgeous (except during hurricanes :)).  I enjoy bike riding
on the gulf coast keys from Bird Key up to Anna Maria Island.  To me this is
a paradise, second only to Salvador, Brazil.

BTW, I'm building a website with photos I've taken of Brazil.  As soon as
it's set up I'll post a link.  I suspect you'll like the photos.  We plan to
be down ther for a month beginning in mid-July if all goes well with the
Internet hookup.  It takes much longer to get things going than here but
from what I hear the online service is reliable once you get it going.  I'll
take pictures of Morro do Sao Paulo and Ilha Itaparica next trip.  They are
a couple of fantastic tropical islands near Salvador.  We plan to spend a
few days at a poussada on Morro and another on Itaparica.

If you ever have the time to go, you really ought to see Brazil.  The land
is incredibly beautiful, the people strikingly so and much more friendly
than most other places I've travelled.  The food is just out of this
world!!!
