Just as a bit of balance, my daughter asked for a razr mobile phone
this xmas. It came with a Windows CD with the software necessary to
transfer files etc.

She has a mac mini with a cheapo bluetooth dongle.

Out of curiosity I thought I'd see if the mac recognised the phone
via Bluetooth.

It discovered the phone as a Razr automatically.

It set up syncing between the RAzr contact book and the Mac address
book automatically - it even displayed the correct icon for the phone
in the isync panel.

She asked about ringtones and could she transfer some songs to use as
ringtones.

I grabbed a song from iTunes and imported it into garageband (both
free apps with the mac mini). I edited the song to leave just the
chorus and exported it back to iTunes. Converted the clip to MP3 in
itunes.

Fired up the Bluetooth File Exchange on the mac (free and included in
OSX) and browsed the devices. It picked up the Razr and open the
phone folders. Opened the audio folder and pressed send and the mp3
clip was sent to the phone via bluetooth.

Got a few graphics and edited them and sent them across via bluetooth.

All seamless, all without fuss and all with the software included on
the mac.

Just wanted to share my experiences - I've been using a mac for less
than a year and am still blown away by the difference :)
