I think that being folded four times would hurt enough that it would be
difficult to perform at all, let alone transmit much of anything.

This begs the question what then ought we to register?  :^)

FTR, I'm not interested in gun registration per se.  I do believe that it
should be illegal to store a firearm unless it is locked up or has a trigger
lock to prevent use by unauthorized persons, especially children.  As to
those who insist they can teach their 9-year-olds gun safety, I wonder if
they also believe that they can teach their 9-year olds to drive a bus with
sufficient skill as to avoid killing themselves or anyone else.
