RE: New lighting wiring
Ho Hum... I guess my plan to use an LD11, toggled 0% to 100% (by
Homevision) , as a quite relay to turn on some 12v LED bathroom lighting
(running on a 240v transformer) probably isn't a good idea then.

Actually you cannot run CFL's through a dimmer even at 100% output
(unless
it is a proper dimmable CFL like some of the new Varilight models) - the
dimmer still affects the waveform to the lighting circuit which can lead
to
the CFL running very hot and using much more energy, almost as much as a
conventional filament lamp. Got the info from a website and
unfortunately
cannot find the URL just now.

Neil,
Unfortunately you are correct.. you can't run low energy bulbs with the
LD11 (unless they support dimming). I suppose if you don't use local
control and just use some intelligent controller (i.e. Homevision or PC)
then you could use low energy if you used the controller to send an
extended X10 command to turn on at 100% and not ramp up or down..???
99.9% of all UK X10 modules don't support status response. The only one
I know of that does is the TM13u RF receiver. Most people some form of
controller to "watch" for X10 commands and track the status of
X10
devices. I personally have started using Frank's Probe system to monitor
if lights are on or off via HomeVision... see the review on

Thanks Marcus
Am I right in thinking that you can't run low energy light bulbs on an
LD11?
Even though all I would be doing is turning them on and off?
Also, if I use something like XAP and Floorplan, am I right in thinking
that
it wouldn't be able to tell what state the AD10 / LD11 are in i.e. on or
off?
Thanks
Neil

I have most of my lights on LD11 Din modules and did start to use an
AD10 for the bathroom lighting but found that the *LOUD* CLUNK that the
AD10 makes could be heard all over the house (even though it was mounted
in an enclosure in a cupboard!). Quickly replaced with an LD11.
I did try a micromodule which although it was much quieter also has some
issues, mainly that the switching wire is low voltage unlike the
AD10/LD11 and so it was more difficult or impossible to install as a
simple replacement for the AD10
Rather than run new wires to behind the bed you could use a stick on
remote switch that works via RF (battery operated) and talks to a plugin
TM13 receiver unit that then passes on the X10 signal to the LD11 unit.

For AD10, either an on/off or momentary switch would do. Have a look at
the technical diagram on our website to see how each is connected to the
AD10.

Yes. One thing to bear in mind when running the local control wires is
that they should be as far away from other electrical wiring as
possible.
We have known a number of cases where induced current from nearby wires
were sufficient to activate the AD10/LD11 in question.
