Re: SMS t PC was [OT]'ish - Genies' Free Sim Offer

Title: Re: [ukha_d] SMS t PC was [OT]'ish - Genies' Free Sim
Kevin,

Not familiar with the 3210. I lost interest in mobiles and still use my 5.1

Heres how it was done using the 2140/5.1

A nokia pcmia data card was connected t the socket on the bottom of the mobile. The data card was them inserted into a cardport adapter card (Gives a PC a laptop type slot). Windows reckonises this and sets up the mobile as a modem on a com port.

It is then a simple case of using say VB t talk t the port using an extended AT command set to send and recieve SMS. It was great when orange sent me the bill for 1,500 sms messages (before charging) - a few dead trees!!!!!!

Kit has moved on since then. As i said you can now get the internals of a mobile slappped on a pc card. You simply drop it in a pc and drop a sim card in the board.

Steve.

Yes you can. Was done way back when the Nokia 2140 was the in thing.

You could now even use one of the mobile phones units on an ISA/PCI card

Can you do this ??? ie have a mobile phone permanently connected t a PC that will transfer any SMS text messages it receives t the PC ? & vv ? It would be ideal way t control a HA setup or receive alarm / status messages.

Currently I can send SMS from my PC but not receive it so I'm half way there.

- if your phone has a serial port on it can you send sms from a pc and receive them t a pc ??-
