If I were in Bass' shoes I wouldn't own up to selling any commercial fire
gear. I don't know what the regulations are like elsewhere, but you have to
have [CAD] drawings stamped and approved before you can even start pulling
wire for the job around here. I haven't heard Bass say anything about doing
drawing for submittals with his fire sales. It doesn't matter what
experience you have or haven't had. It is a matter of having the proper
licensing and credentials. I don't know any fire planner in the area that
would be willing to stamp a DIY job (for liability reasons obviously). I
have never heard of an AHJ accepting any DIY jobs anywhere. As far as
regulation go, I don't know how you get past the fact that every AHJ seems
to have their own take on what just the regulations mean. Generally you
don't try to "educate" the AHJ. The AHJ makes the rules and you follow them.
It seems like getting past that problem long distance would be nearly
impossible. Additionally you have to have an inspection schedule after the
original install. So as a practical matter you go to do an inspection and
find no paperwork and no sticker from the original installation and your
going to put your sticker on the panel and pass it? Sure, just drive
yourself downtown and turn yourself in afterwards.
