The real problem is that Israel is surrounded
by agressor states whose leaders want to
annihilate Israel. The Israelis are perfectly
willing to live at peace with their neighbors.
Unfortunately, the neighbors are either unwilling
or unable to reign in terrorists who want nothing
more than to kill Israelis.

The result of all this is that there will *never* be
peace between Israel and its neighbors. It is
an absolute certainty that, sooner or later, one
of these crazy groups will get a nuclear weapon.
They won't hesitate to use it and Israel won't
hesitate to respond.

The only deterrent (and this is only a partial
deterrent) is that Israel has at least one and
possibly several submarines equipped with
nuclear weapons. There is enough fire power
on one boat to wipe out all of the extremnist
states in the region. While their leaders don't
mind sending their own countrymen to blow
themselves up, they're not about to risk their
own lives. You won't see Bin Laden or
Ahmadinejad strapping on an explosive belt.

So for the meantime nuclear war isn't an
immediate problem. Also, when Israel sees
Iran or any of the other nutcase nations getting
close to finishing a bomb they'll do what they
did to Saddam's nuke factory in 1981. The
place was built into the side of a mountain with
a six-layer reinfoced concrete dome to protect
it. Israel, always the model of efficiency, sent
six bombers, each with a single bomb. That's
diplomacy, Israel style. :^)
