Re: Press "1" for English
Yes you're right Petem, NOW everyone knows when things are really tough the
words "we're going to send in the French" really strikes terror in the heart
of any enemy. I just typed the words and I wet my pants. Okay maybe I was
giggling a little too.
The second best plane thing might makes some sense. I am not a pilot, but
many pilots have told me when they hear the name Dessault they think it
makes for a good number 2. It stinks as much but is harder to flush.
"Who was Von Braun?" I think he was a swell guy. He personally licked
Hitler's ass to get funds to build a terror weapon using Jewish slave labor.
What's not to like about any of that? He showed enough loyalty to his
country to figure out how change sides at the last minute, yet still stay
out of prison and keep working on his pet project. That was real rocket
science. Had to give up the Jews though. Didn't matter much because his boss
had already arranged to get rid of most of them anyway. Too bad Von Braun
didn't live long enough to get his US citizenship revoked and then get sent
back to Wyrzysk. This guy only had a concern for getting the rocket up.
Caring about where it landed and its payload? Not so much. I wouldn't call
his achievements the greatest anything. Even with 7,000 deaths from his
science project to claim, he still only gets honorable mention at the mass
murdering awards. Would the USA have made it to the moon without Von Braun?
Probably not yet. Should that have kept him out of Spandau Prison? No, I
think he and Hess should have been playing cards until the end for them
both.
The atom bomb thing was a bit more complicated. The Nazi regime ran Leo
Szilard and his Jewish pals out of Dodge. That motivated them to create a
real monster to stop a perceived monster. The USA just happened to have the
cash and the desire to make it all come together. Poor Leo and his buddies
got kicked out of the club they started so they can't get the type of credit
Von Braun does for the rocket. Anyway their monster got loose. We are all
still suffering.
Vietnam? There is a difference between losing a war and losing interest. Yes
we all know how good things have been for the Vietnamese since the USA
bugged out. How long does it take to paddle from Hanoi to Hong Kong? I think
a lot of Vietnamese could tell you down to the number of strokes.
The French in Africa? Come on! Some of my African buddies remember the
French as fondly as they do the British. My Ashanti buddy really liked the
idea of creating political boundries that made no sense with respect to
tribal and other geographical ties within their society. One look at Africa
today shows the results of real French genius and stewardship in action. The
aftermath truly speaks for itself.
Yes we all remember the French Explorers. Good thing the King of France sent
an Italian Giovanni da Verrazano in first to sniff around what would become
Canada. With his maps and the ones made by the Portuguese Gaspar Corte-Real
and the Italian with an English name John Cabot, the rest of the French you
mention managed not to get lost. But that's about it. Too bad, most people
still wish the French would get lost.
The grape thing has to do more with the Biomes. France is in the Paleartic
Biogeographical Realm. The Atlantic mixed forests span the wine making
countries you describe but France uniquely also has the Alps conifer and
mixed forest as well as the NE Spain and Southern France Mediterranean
forests. Again good wine making for the French is an accident of geography,
nothing more. Maybe if the French made great sake or Du Kang they might have
a winning technique to crow about. I think they may need to forget about the
grapes and start with the prunes instead. That might help with all that
number 2 thing they're full of.
