Yes it is a requirement. Even if you are working on your own home and hire a
helper, you are required to furnish worker's comp. insurance for him. That
is were so many were getting into trouble during the hurricane recovery.
They would come in thinking that if they just said they were helping the
homeowner, they could get away without a license. Problem was that, guess
who was accompaning the license investigator. It was the Worker Comp.
compliance officer. An individual cannot get WC on his own, as Norm said.
You must be incorporated or an LLC. That was setup to track these guys and
help stop the trunk slammers.
