Electromagnetic Lock Installation

I need to verify the proper and/or recommended location for the installation
of an electromagnetic door lock onto a door frame. I have found that the
lock must be installed per "NFPA Life Safety Code 101", but I don't have
time to buy that document ($60!) for what must be a simple answer.

I'm assuming the lock needs to be installed away from the door handle or
lock, simply because it's an obstruction. Is that essentially what it says
in this NFPA code?

These locks are normally (almost always) installed at the top of a
regular-type door frame, right?
