I could really see this as being a "left to the developer" thing.
 I can't
see it breaking anything if they reset the timer or if they didn't (it's
not
like anyone should be expecting a fixed heartbeat -- just looking for the
absence of one suggesting device shutdown/death).

I can easily imagine that for many folks with embedded xPL, adding this
would be a matter of finding the packet and invoking their heartbeat logic
(which would probably reset the timer).

Can anyone see any real downside to suggesting these as options and leave
it
to the device developer to pick the best solution for their implementation?
