RE: Re: [OT]ish Router +modem problem
Nick et al
I've just found a thread that may shed some impending doom on my plans! My
ISP is 3 Ireland which is the official broadband solution in rural Ireland
(the govt's way of ensuring that all households are able to receive
broadband). I've just found a thread on Boards.ie that indicates that
there
are some serious NAT issues with certain modems (mine). Also there are a
couple of APNs which can be used and mine is routed via a proxy server and
is provided with a WAN address on the 3 IRL private network. This has 2
impacts - one is that I am unlikely to get the VPN working and two that
other users are experiencing problems accessing certain websites, which
could actually be the cause of my problems. It looks like 3 are trying to
sort it out but slowly. Hopefully by the time I next get over there there
will be a fix!
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers
Pete

Peter,
Well those numbers look good but the DNS is a bit odd. It should work
but I would of thought that the FVS318 router had it's own DNS server
(for the LAN ports) and DNS client (for the WAN port) in which case
the PC should be using a DNS of 192.168.1.1. Even if the DNS isn't
working you should still be able to access the web via IP addresses so
something else must be wrong. The logs will probably reveal all when
you next have access..
Nick.
