It's because science is "hard" and no-one makes the kids
study it
anymore.  They even let them off with a single "science" subject
instead
of the three traditional disciplines.  Why work hard to get a B in
physics when you can get an A in muggle studies with no effort required?

With that lack of science education in mind, it's no wonder that
scaremongering politicians and charlatans like Gina Ford and "Dr"
Gillian McKeith manage to get so much media attention.
