OT? ADSL Customers

I was told the following today, any use to anyone? is it true?

"Don't know if this is of any use to you, but I thought it might come
in handy for potential ADSL customers:
Line Length (They need to know how far you are from the exchange), you must
be within 3.5km to pass for 1Mbps and 2Mbps products, and within 5.5km for
the 512kbps products. NB: This is related to the length of the line rather
than the physical distance from the exchange.
Dial 17070, select option 3,1 and 2. The system will then check the length
of your line and call you back with the result. This test is only a rough
indicator and doesn't always work, if you have an ISDN or HH line it wont
work at all."
