HI Alex,

The AM12 is simply a switching control unit (Appliance Module, hence AM).
It
can not be connected to your computer or send X10 commands.

The CM12 is a computer interface to allow the PC or any serial device for
that matter, to send and receive X10 commands. This is what you will need
to
control any X10 device from your PC.

The LM12 is a Lamp Module and is for controlling incandescent lamps only
(not halogen or low energy). It supports the brightness commands, whereas
the AM12 is purely ON or OFF via a relay.
