Exactly! You are a good business man.

I think you should at least tell the person that the system could no longer
be used and would need an upgrade. Answer the person's questions.

I was taught in marketing that if you don't have what the customer wants,
then help the customer find another business which has what he is looking
for. Even look up the number in the phone book and write that down for the
customer as well as the address...

Does not exactly work over the phone... But that is the general idea. The
customer will remember how nice and helpful you were. Might recommend your
company to other people. Or remember your company in the future.

The opposite to that is a dissatisfied person. They will tell 10 people to
not have a thing to do with your company. And they are more likely to do
that than to say something good about a company.
