Re: Why Don't You Like DSC? (Addressed to those that don't.)

We always assigned the location physically nearest the panel as keypad 1. I
teach my DIY clients to do the same thing. In the last 8 years I've had
maybe ten or twenty people call for help changing a user code. All of these
amateurs also learn how to install and program their own systems indicates.
If you find it that difficult to program then perhaps you're in the wrong
profession.

Most of my Napco clients use the software and a laptop or PC. It's easier
when you're looking at the information on screen, filling out a form than
doing it one step at a time at the keypad.

I much prefer walking them through programming the panel via PC. Since
virtually all of my DIY clients come to me via the Internet, they all have
computers and most have some savvy. I can walk most people through the
initial programming in twenty to thirty minutes. Keypad programming is
almost always slower with any panel.

If you can't deal with it, stick to DSC. They're much simpler panels.

Fortunately for me, most DIYers use the PC. I explain that it's easier to
avoid making a mistake with the data on screen in front of you.

Do you refuse to drive a car unless you know how to fix the transmission
first?
