He should actually do that first. *Before* he unplugs the transformer and
opens the box. He should also unplug the battery first, then pull the plug
on the AC.

Nawww... A quick phone call would save him a lot of money. It's obvious
he's already cancelled his contract.

Don't throw the equipment away. You don't own it. You don't have the right
to dispose of it. You must return it to the rightful owner.
