Agreed on all counts.  If the only means of securing the door is to be an
electrically operated lock, the user may wish to consider a solenoid
operated strike.  These typically do not fail when the power goes out.
Egress requires only conventional door hardware so they are much less
complicated.

One down side of electro-mechanical locks compared to electromagnetic ones
is that moving parts require occasional service.
