Tony,
Thanks for the swift response. I prefer to use a lossless format if
possible for quility puposes - I know the difference is minimal at
high mp3 bitrates but I prefer the comfort of knowing I'm not
sacrificing any quility by using the rio instead of cd's. I also
wouldn't mind transcoding if it was to wav rather than mp3 for the
same reason but if possible, native support is preferable.
I ask about gapless playback becuase I listen to a lot of cd's where
one track is mixed into another without a break in the music. I
still like to store them as individual flac files so they can be
accessed on thier own. but when I play them back together I need
100% gapless transition (as it sounds when played back off CD). This
should be possible with flac and ogg - Mp3 can be done using the
latest lame extensions I think but I've never tried it. I didn't get
a chance to test xpl for gapless becase I don't have any gapless
albums in mp2 so I don't know if it already does this. Please note,
encoded silence should still be played back so if 2 tracks have a
gap on the cd they have a gap on the rio/slim etc.
Cheers in adavnce
Chris
