RE: Z-Wave modules with low energy bulbs

I get the same effect with a stand-alone dusk timer, CFL dimly
flickers when
off.

In our case never been a problem, as you don't notice it in daylight and
it's on in the evening.

The timer is looking for a lamp even when off, as if you take the lamp it
out, it indicates no load (=error) and won't switch on.

Thanks Joseph,

Doing a check on the internet, it appears that it happens because the
design
pulls a tiny load through the bulb or whatever is connected to the output.
Not sure why it does this but this appears to be what the old X10 units
also
did.

I can see the need for this for systems with no neutral as you need to
power
the electronics but with an application device which has a connection to
both live and neutral and switch with a relay, this would be redundant.

Dave.

Can't really help, but I've had this problem without any of the z-wave
stuff
- just a normal switch. Never solved it, but sparky assured me it wasn't
dangerous. You can find all sorts of theories as to why it happens online;
some suggest some brands of bulb are more susceptible to it than others,
others blame induced currents from the wiring acting as a radio antenna, or
capacitive coupling.

Joseph
