I have used a number of different scanners over the last 15 years and
I have looked at the manual for the 5700.
I don't think this model will produce keyboard codes at all! Models I have
used all had a section for generating
keyboard codes in the manual, as the cable itself does not do any data
conversion. It seems this model will only produce
ASCII from the various ports. So I think the cable is designed for another
model which does generate keyboard codes.

So you will have to use a serial port or a serial/USB adapter to get the
data from the scanner.
