Thanks for the reply David.

The actual cable is an RS232 to PS/2 adaptor. The RS232 end is a RJ45
connection. This is the correct part for the scanner (at least I'm pretty
sure it is!).

Then I'm using a PS/2 to USB adaptor but I've also tried it directly into
an
old PC with a PS/2 input and still nothing is being transmitted.

I think the solution lies in the scanner settings (set by scanning barcodes
from the manual) but so far I've not been able to find the right
combination.
