Just spotted this thread..I didn't use the Philips LEDs, but I have
integrated the Ikea "Dioder" coloured LEDs into my home
automation.

They basically change colour using a push-button switch (or cycle round
slowly) - I just wired an Idratek relay in parallel with the switch so
that I could change the colour based on any event in the house.
I've installed four of them (chained) in the false wall behind my LCD TV
- they look great and give nice ambient glow (and also act as a night
light based on room occupancy)
