RE: Finally a HiDef Replacement for XBMC?
That's fine that they have linux etc internally. I just don't want to
see
any sign of it anywhere in the user interface. The quick play I have had
with a mac shows that it should be more possible to hide that it's a PC
then
a windows machine with all the stupid bios screens etc, but I still cant
count on it not to throw up some dialog box sometime that will then need a
mouse or keyboard to dismiss.
XBMC on an xbox as the dash I can give to my mother confident that
powercycling will fix any problems that happen, same cannot be said for any
PC or Mac running software.

There's always going to be an OS of some kind - the hardware has just
gotten too complicated to start from scratch every time and write all
the necessary device drivers - especially when that job has been done
already for an OS
In any case, a lot of "appliances" these days have standard PC
hardware
inside. Buy a DVD recorder for example, and it will most likely be
running a form of Linux.
As for porting xbmc, a Windows version would be simple - the XDK and
DirectX are very similar (in fact, didn't xbmc start out as a Windows
project?) Porting to other OSs would be more work, but perfectly possible.
