Great advice - the crucial site also tells you how many slots a mb
has, the compatible sizes and type of ram for each slot, and if it
needs to be 'banked' (kept in pairs, or quads - both are now rare for
consumer PCs).

DDR1 spec says that speed backwards compatibility (step-down) is
mandatory, IIRC.  All RAM since 100Mhz has been that way...though mbs
can always be 'picky' about speed, as well as it's timings.

I suggest you give it a go - you're *very* unlikely to damage
anything, and if it boots into MS Windows, that's a pretty good test
(windows 'works' RAM pretty had on startup - Linux/BSDs can often
start and run for days with dodgy ram!)
