No darkness here... I have an internal UPS :)

Oh, you *can* - you can also install 3D graphics cards too.
But why would you?
The kernel offers mainline support for almost all decent server hardware.

And just below you talk about selecting 'half decent kit' and running
'signed'
drivers... Same thing. Adaptec is only 'half decent' if it has good
drivers.
Under Linux it can fail to qualify. Highpoint probably fails for *both*
OSes due
to the drivers, not the hardware...
In fact I'd guess most 'B-grade' hardware is actually B-grade drivers.

Which of course is exactly what home users are encouraged to buy and run...
What's the OS license cost for a single dual-core 64bit server with say 4
seats?

Oh. That much eh?

Agree. Not 'massively better', just 'better' ;)

Target market?
It was a reply to an individual about an option, not a marketing
strategy...

Err yes.

<looks around> Did I stumble into an AOL forum by mistake?

So for the slightly more 'hands on' UKHAer rather than the "hmm, what
can I plug
this into" plug-n-play variant?

I never lost my grip Ian ... and just wondering if you chose your car
colour
post-mortem?
