Probably coming in late on this thread as I've been away but I use a
PDA running xLobby thin client wirelessly linked to my HA server.

It has an alarm function that's pretty easy to set (press buttons on
the screen).  When the alarm goes off it plays music through the
room's speakers.  It would be easy enough to do a snooze button too.

Fairly obviously the screen always shows the time too!

PDA screen also displays other stuff like weather and temperatures
(from xAP feeds).

Is that the sort of thing?
