Re: Speech & HA

Oh yes it is. Its called tecnological advance. The technology does
exist it just hasn't been put together properly for a HA environment.
The types of products that are currently on the market are low =A3100's
and that price level will never address the current issues that need
to be addressed - namely:

1) Speech Lexicons need to be developed correctly - these deal with
accents=
.
2) The speech engines themselves then have to be tuned to deal with
the HA environment. Currently they contain lots of baggage - for which
the main effect is to add delay!!
3) The speech engines should then be trained for the specific
voice(s). For example it will only respond to the 'trained' voices in
the family.

When the above issues are packaged - there is a chance, but then
there's the issues with microphones and background noise. I'm going
the home grown route with command lookup via a database. I'm using the
Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1.
Accent is not a problem as I'm from down south, but for a north
yorkshire then some heavy Lexicon routines have to be built.

The answer to when this is packaged correctly is when the likes of
Crestron and AMX come out with a system.
