Well I got a reply from Geovision:

Dear sir:
Thank you for your submit to Geovision Technical Support.
To answer your question, the reason of the problem is because
you connect to an old version of GV-system, therefore the verisign
has been expired.
To solve this problem, please adjust the security level to low
and make sure all ActiveX controls are "enable", please refer
to the picture below."
Then there is a picture of IE security settings showing all activex
options enabled...
Then I thought of something else!!
IE6 has seperate settings for each "ZONE" namely Internet and
Intranet zones have different options/settings. I have been changing
the settings on the internet and Geovision pc (which feeds cams to
weblobby on the touch screens) is on my lan..!!! Really stupid to
miss that one...huh
Anyway, changed the security on the intranet zone and the activex
stuff downloaded and installed fine.
All is well again..
