Re: IR and Plasma/LCD

Richard,

I have solved this problem here - I am using a standard Zantech
receiver controllig Sky+, DVD, Amp, and Plasma.

In my case it involved a custom made cabinet and so I was able to
plan it in... But the principle is to shield the receiver from as
much stray LCD / Plasma interference as possible.

Let me try to describe my cabinet...

It has two cupboards with all the kit in; above the cupboards are two
drawers and in between the drawers is a "slot" for the 5.1 centre
speaker.

The plasma is mounted on the wall immediately above the cabinet.

There is a 1cm gap above the centre speaker and the IR receiver is
mounted above the speaker inside the slot but very near the back of
the cabinet.

Therefore IR from remote control is channeled into the slot to the
receiver, but the receiver is shielded completely from plasma
interference.

This solution means remote control is slightly directional, but as
the IR bounces off the inside of the slot its not too bad. It
certainly works for me from any of the four seats the other side of
the room.

Cheers!
Mark
