A couple of years ago, my HA system (back in the UK) was out of
commission for an upgrade, and (teenage) daughter opened the porch
door to go outside, and for reasons unknown to her, the light didnt
come on.

"Dad, the porch light is bust".

"No dear, its just not on automation at the moment, you'll have to put
it on at the switch"

"Err - what switch? - how??"

For the whole of her aware life, several functions of the house were
under automatic control, and she was never aware there was a time when
things just didnt happen by magic. She was never aware that there was
a light switch for the porch (and several other) lights......
