[OT] ish: Need a new switch

Hi All,

I'm asking this question as I cant think of another better informed
group of people than the residents of UKHA_D. I also think your the
most likely people who would have done the same research.

I currently have an Allied Telesyn 8350GB layer 2 managed switch in
my "server room" - this is servicing one large Dell PowerEdge and
approx 20 clients and 5 printers. There is plenty of room for
expansion on the switch (it has 2 gigabit uplinks, either can be
copper or fibre)

I also have a large room below my office, which I am shortly going to
be expanding into. The room isnt quite directly below, and its an
old house so cable routing is very difficult. I have pretty much
decided that what I want is one uplink from the switch in the server
room to another switch in the new office (again, either fibre or
copper). However, and this is where the question comes in...
the "new" switch will be sat in the office where people are
working
so it cant sound like a train! (the AT one does).

So, I guess my question (finally) is this: Does anyone know of a 24
port or more switch (managed or unmanaged) that has gigabit uplink
(either fibre or copper) and most importantly... IS QUIET!

Any replies either on or off list are greatly appreciated... I have
been investigating the 3com Baseline series, but have no idea of
sound levels!

many thanks

paul
