David
I am currently designing exactly this setup for a client, using the
Lay-z-boy theatre range of chairs. However this is in a dedicated
room.
It could be done in a dual purpose room but it would have to be a big
room if you were also going to have sofas etc.
Depending on the exact models and configurations the Lay-z-boys take
around 138 inches in width for four so say 106 inches or so for a row
of three, length would be over 90 inches for two rows.
Unless the room is very big these will take it over.
300mm is fine for the height to raise the second row but this means
having two steps not just a split level.
The only way I would recommend doing this is if seats could be put
against a wall with the second row raised and a double step to one
side.
I guess it depends on the size shape and layout of the room. If you
let me know what the dimensions are, or even better send me an autocad
file of the plans I will have a look.

I once again want to use the collective knowledge and advice of the
group. I am in the process of having a house built and have been
considering creating an artificial split level in my lounge to make it
like a theatre. The lounge stud height is 2.4m and the lounge measures
6.3m by 4m I had considered making an artificial theatre environment
and
have 2 rows of 3 chairs. Would this be plain dorky or is it a valid
idea
and would it look ok. I thought the back seats would be about 300mm
above the normal floor. I would have made a dedicated theatre room but
alas money and space on the section prevented that. I realize the
obvious answer is will it be used more as a lounge or a theatre and
the
answer is – I don’t know. So opinions please good idea or just plain
dorky ?
Regards
David
