Damn fine idea, if you ask me.

My only concern would be - is this your _only_ general reception room?
If so, it might be a bit odd, but if you have this as well as a family
room / playroom / drawing room /  call-it-what-you-will room, then
should be fine.

I hope to do the same - sadly, my ceilings are nothing like high enough
- though I am off to look at building plots next week, so fingers
crossed.
