You're quite right Mark - the Meteor gets it's power from the PC, so you
need to ensure the DTR and RTS pins of the serial port are always high.
(at least that's what I did in my xPL Meteor app to make it work)

Agreed - there is so much free software out there for interfacing to a
Meteor, that you really shouldn't need to write your own code to interface
to it directly anymore.

The xPL Meteor service should cause the red LED to illuminate as soon as
the service is started.
ISTR the green LED only flashes when CID info is being received.
