Why on earth are you making cables ?

Horrible job and ready made ones are so cheap its not worth the effort.

I have made them in the past, which is why I now buy them ready made but
never had any problem with plugs I have crimped on.

One thought does spring to mind though.... are you using proper Stranded
Patch Cord for your cables or trying to crimp a plug onto solid cored CAT5
cable ?

Whilst you CAN crimp a plug onto CAT5 cable it is not to be recommended as
the plugs are designed to pierce the stranded cores of Patch cable. With
Solid cored cable the spikes inside the plug either push the cable to the
side and dont make contact, pake just a passing contact, or cut through the
solid core.
