but you don't want to be turning off your virus scanner

the hardware firewall is so much harder to crack than a software one,
plus the windows one will be targeted because it's such a common piece
of software.

i'm also thinking that most worms would strugle to get in past the
firewall in the first place, you can't open ports from the outside
with upnp, unless someone exploits your specific piece of firewall
kit, and the it's just a matter of a firmware update, like a patch,
and your sorted again

t's always going to be a little dangerous, and there are arguments for
having as many lines of defense as possible, but if someone is really
determined to take a box on a uk DSL line, then they have some serious
issues to contend with :)
