RE: Servers in the garage - do they get too cold?

Following on from this I'm thinking about putting a backup server in my
garage, but it won't be powered up most of the time.
It struck me yesterday that it'll be fine during the summer, but during the
winter the  temperature will plummet. I've checked the specs on the only
thing that I think will have a problem - namely the hard drives and was
dismayed to find the min. operating temp. was 5'C.
This presents a problem for booting the server during the colder winter
months...

Any ideas?

I know a few people have servers etc in their garage, and I'm thinking
of going down the same route myself, but I have a few questions.

1) Do you not suffer from condensation in the equipment? Our garage
isn't water tight, and water does form pools on the floor, but the
equipment would be on the floor anyway ...

2) What are the insurance implications? Are your server covered by
your policy? (Obviously, mine may be different, I'll have to check)
