Hi Phil,

This usually depends on the standby setting in the BIOS.
As far as I remember, there are 2 settings: S1 and S3
One (S1 I think) causes the behaviour your are seeing, the other should
result in STR (suspend to RAM) if your motherbaord and various hardware
drivers support it.

...just what should power down?

I'm getting the hard disc powering down and that's about it - both PSU and
CPU fans are remeining on.

Is that right? I thought the whole damn lot should power off and just teh
RAM refresh circuitry stay alive...
