Thanks for the advice.  I will let you know how I get on.  Many thanks for
your good wishes.

BTW the system is NTFS XP Pro.  I don't think the CF card will be a runner
because it has been used over Xmas, but worth a shot I know.  It might be
that the images exist and were not deleted, but didn't go where he wanted
them to.  He is a naieve user and in the curent circs not up to a long
conversation with me giving instructions trying to locate them.
